January 25, 2012 (UNHCR) – The 10th Inter-agency meeting of representatives from migration and border authorities, municipal child care services, judges, non-governmental organizations, the Ombudsman on Children Rights in Ukraine Mr. Yuriy Pavlenko, representatives of local authorities, the Governor’s Office and UNHCR’s Regional Representation for Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine, the International Organization for Migration and Danish Refugee Council was convened in Uzgorod.

UNHCR is concerned about the reports it has received from a detention centre in Ukraine where asylum-seekers claim to have been denied effective access to international protection and due process. Several asylum-seekers are known to have resorted to the desperate measure of refusing food and starting a hunger strike. -
