UNHCR provided humanitarian assistance to IDPs in Kyiv region

On 20 May 2014, UNHCR team delivered several sets of Non Food Items (NFI) to the sanatorium ?Zhuravushka? in Kyiv region, hosting 126 displaced persons from Crimea and Eastern Ukraine. The delivery included mattresses, pillows, linens and cookware to improve living conditions for the newly arrived families, residing in the sanatorium.

Several more requests for deliveries of NFIs are being proceeded, including from the vulnerable IDP families with disabled persons and many children.

On 20 June, UNHCR provided kitchen and household appliances to improve reception condition in two sanatoriums in Prolisky and Rogoziv in Kyiv region, hosting 100 IDPs.

More than 40 lots from world's sport stars offered for sale at charity auction in Kyiv

27 September 2013 more than 40 unique football and sport lots were offered at the World's Sport Stars to Children Charity Auction that was organized by the Embassy of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta to Ukraine and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The goal of the auction was to collect funds for the Children Unit of the Kyiv Clinical Cancer Centre and the Children Unit of the Kyiv Clinical Cancer Centre and Lviv Medical Centre, Children Oncology Department. Part of the money raised went to a fund to benefit refugee children in Ukraine who are of concern to the UNHCR.

A round table "Statelessness in Ukraine"

11 December 2013 UNHCR RR Kyiv jointly with HIAS Representative Office in Ukraine and the State Migration Service of Ukraine conducted a round table "Statelessness in Ukraine".

The event was attended by the representatives of the Citizenship Directorate of the Presidential Administration, Department of Consulate Service of Mninistry of Foreign Affairs, the SMS Directorates for Passport Work and Citizenship; Refugees and Aliens Affairs; Chief Directorates of SMS in Autonomous Republic of Crimea, Kyiv City, Donetsk, Odesa, Zakarpatska Provinces, Directorate of SMS in Kyiv Province, State Border Guards Service of Ukraine, University of Tafts (USA), as well as non-governmental organizations. The participants discussed the necessity to elaborate a national statelessness determination mechanism and to conduct a national mapping of statelessness and amnesty for stateless persons who are currently irregular on the territory of Ukraine.

The Aliens movie received the Best Documentary Award at the Kharkiv Human Rights Festival

10 November 2013 the Aliens movies by Spanish filmmaker Paula Palacios was awarded the Best Documentary at the 6th Kharkiv Human Rights Festival "Steps". The UN Refugee Agency organized a special screening of the documentary "Aliens: Somalis in Transit" in Kharkiv this Sunday. The event was attended by 80 persons. The list of guests included   representatives of the Chief Department of the State Migration Service and State Boarder Guard Detachment of the Kharkiv region, Administrative Courts of First and Second Instances, Kharkiv State Employment Center, National Law Academy named after Jaroslav Mudriy, Kharkiv's Office of Red Cross as well as different NGOs from the region.

The UNHCR and the High Administrative Court of Ukraine conducted training of judges in Kharkiv

12 November 2013 the UNHCR Regional Representation for Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine and the High Administrative Court of Ukraine (HACU) conducted training of judges of Kharkiv Administrative Court of Appeal, of Kharkiv Circuit Administrative Court, which are considering disputes on status of a refugee and a person in need of complementary protection, as well as of Dzerzhinskiy District Court of Kharkiv, which are considering law-suits on forcible expulsion of foreigners and stateless persons from Ukraine. Representatives of the CDSMS of Ukraine in Kharkiv province, including the Directorate for Refugees and Kharkiv City Prosecutor's Office also participated in the event.
