Greek heroes honoured at 2016 UNHCR Nansen Refugee Award ceremony


GENEVA, Switzerland, 3 October 2016 (UNHCR)  –  The UN Refugee Agency, UNHCR, today honoured the heroic efforts of Greek volunteers during the 2015 refugee crisis by giving its Nansen Refugee Award to the Hellenic Rescue Team (HRT) and Efi Latsoudi of PIKPA village on the island of Lesvos.

Bus project reduces isolation in eastern Ukraine’s “no-man’s land”

DNIPRO, Ukraine, 18 September 2016 (UNHCR) — People line up at the bus station in Bakhmut (formerly Artemivsk). A woman holds a new broom, while an elderly man nearby clutches a plastic tablecloth with red flowers. The bus arrives and people rush to get on, helping each other to lift heavy bags with groceries and other goods. These people arrived on the first bus ride out of Zhovanka village in two years, made possible only after extensive advocacy efforts by UNHCR.

UNHCR together with the Theatre of Displaced People presents special programme at GogolFest 2016


KYIV, Ukraine, 16 September 2016 (UNHCR) - Today, one of the biggest cultural events in Kyiv - GogolFest 2016 - starts. The Stage of Displaced People will be part of Gogolfest 2016 held in Kyiv.  This is a special theatre programme which will tell the stories of people who have lost their homes. It is curated by the Theatre of Displaced People with the support of the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR).
